Today I met up with my co-worker Rebecca and her rowing partner Leanne shoot a promo video for them. They’re rowing across the Pacific Ocean in 2014 (crazy ladies)!! Unfortunately the conditions weren’t the best with all the wind making it hard for both Rebecca and Leanne to row and myself to film along side in a separate boat.
Since the mark 3 was ready to go with the 50mm we decided to make the most of it and take some stills. I brought my alien bee head and a softbox which acted more like a kite and almost blew Leanne away as she was trying to hold it down. So that lasted for about 3 photos (see top photo of Rebecca). Damn wind!
For post I usually don’t like the “HDR” treatment with boosted shadows, darkened highlights and muted colours (especially when the subject is a person) but for this location, the water, wind and clouds had this gritty cold feel to it and I wanted to portray that in the images by emphasizing it. What do you think? I’m going to post the before and after photo at the bottom. All editing was done in Lightroom 4 and I also exported all my settings into a filter preset which can purchased for $1.99 here.
Oh and to learn more about the ambitious goal Rebecca and Leanne are striving towards visit their Facebook page and website. :)

“At its heart, Vine lets you make and share six-second video clips. The app is clearly heavily influenced by the rebirth of the animated gif, because the videos automatically start playing, are muted by default (though a click turns sound on), endlessly loop, and must be between three and six seconds long. You aren’t going to be making movies with these, or even any sort of narrative video clip at all — it’s purely for sharing ‘moments’.”

The ClearlyContacts.ca employees showed their love for Alicia Keys by lip syncing to her new song “Brand New Me” in Derek Cardigan Specs. But can you guess why? (haha). Cameo appearances by: Roger Hardy (CEO), Michelle Lane (Glasses Designer), JV (Social Media King) & Erin Taylor-Mitchell (Editor of theLook) and employee extraordinaires from HR, CS, I.T., Lab, Shipping, Sales, Admin, Marketing, and the Executive Team.
Shot and edited this in the course of two days. You know when you really like a song so logically you overplay it, then you can’t listen to it for a while? Yeah….
